Covers for oil tanks and oil-water separators "AKOV FX & FL"

Volatile gases are emitted from different process tanks, which are filled with oil or waste refinery water. In order to avoid environmental pollution from emitted hydrocarbons the tanks must be covered. AKOV FL and FX are metallic, floating or fixed, framed cover panels which are used to prevent and reduce hydrocarbon emission from oil-water separators and in other similar applications.

AKOV FL or FX are products that offer rigidity and mechanical strength in different load conditions for instance, vibration, wind, storms, earthquake, rain, snow, ice, thermal, corrosion or erosion stress. All materials have been selected in order to function successfully in a hydrocarbon environment and withstand the following operating parameters:

• Aromatic percent 100%
• pH range 2-12
• Operating temperature -5°C /68°C.

The edge of each cover is coated with an EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) rubber in order to provide, a liquid mounted primary seal and an additional secondary seal. The shape of the rubber ensures zero emission of hydrocarbons as it fits exactly to the walls of the tank.

The main body of the AKOV cover is made from two metallic plates that form a panel. An incombustible material is used as filling inside the water-tight welded panel in order to assign buoyancy. The material used for the panels' filling offers extra properties, such as heat insulation -surface oil does not freeze and has permanent floating behavior. The special construction of the AKOV covers ensures a completely flat bottom for alignment contact so as to avoid gas build-up and to ensure stable buoyancy. Finally the recovered oils are of a better quality when the vapors are removed or eliminated.

Covers characteristics

• Each cover is custom designed to the specific tank
• Self supporting from the periphery curbs
• Construction material: aluminum 5083 DIN or stainless steel 1.4004 DIN.
• Seals from EPDM and inlet tube filled with a granular semi-solid product
• Dissimilar metallic materials are separated from each other through the use of approved gaskets or coatings
• Each module is easy to remove and assemble or disassemble
• Flat covers are designed to accommodate all duct works access hatches and existing equipment. Sealed manholes and non-return drain valves are also provided
• The full liquid contact design prevents vapor build up under the deck
• The unique design of the AKOV FL allows it to flex and absorb the stresses caused by high filling rates and mixers.
• Oil and emulsion movement towards skimming pipes is not obstructed.
